We are moving all Atari Lynx related content over to Atari Lynx Vault and all our shop content over to K-Retro Gaming. Please update your bookmarks!

As a result of this change, the following will no longer be available: Online Lynx Emulator, Collection Tracker, Game Ratings, News. If you are interested in contributing content to Atari Lynx Vault, we are seeking editors and maintainers.

Why is this happening? First - the Atari Gamer branding is changing to K-Retro Gaming to allow us to expand to providing games, replacement parts, and mod services to other game consoles. And second - The content management system running Atari Gamer is out of date and Google AppEngine (where the website runs) will no longer allow it to run after the 30th January 2024, so in order to preserve all content we switched to a new and modern content management system and chose a website domain that better suits the subject matter. Since we are operating this website in our spare time, on top of full time family and job committments, some features had to be dropped.

Many of you have been asking about this kit, waiting for this kit, and asking about it some more...well it's finally available for pre-order! BennVenn has put up the Atari Lynx model 1 LCD mod kit up on his store. He's also asked us at Atari Gamer to produce the official mounting bracket for it, so that will be designed and finalised over the course of this week.

We had the preview version of this kit since February 2020, so it's good to finally have a production version with all the bug fixes coming out! Get your Lynx modded and get Lynxing!

We recently mentioned Unnamed as coming out in March, well looks like Songbird Productions has re-confirmed the release date and it's a month earlier! Here's what Carl from Songbird had to say...

This incredible game of mystery and adventure can soon be yours. Can you find your way through the maze of rooms and gardens? Will you discover your purpose, or meet an untimely fate? The game includes a professionally printed box, cartridge, and 12-page manual. Unnamed is exclusive to the Atari Lynx, and is limited to only 250 units.

Pre-orders open on Feb 2 to be ready to reserve your copy as we expect it to be a hot seller! We'll send out another update next week when the pre-order page goes live. Orders will start shipping late February.

Unnamed has been in the works for some time and it's recently been picked up by Songbird Productions for a physical release in March 2021. Atari Gamer has of course been involved with this game too - doing the English language storyline translation and adjustments as well as initial play testing.

Here's what Marcin, the developer had to say about the game (automatically translated by Google Translate from Polish)...

Unnamed is a puzzle adventure game set in the atmosphere of a gentle thriller. The game is kept in the style of the late 1980s, both in terms of audiovisual and the boxed edition itself, which refers to the games released on Lynx on the day of its premiere. The player wakes up lying on the grass in a closed space. Like in my previous game, Unseen, he doesn't know who he is, how he got here, or where to go. He doesn't know what this place is and what is behind the next door. The player's task is to find the way out and find all the answers. On his way, he will find many puzzles that he will have to solve in order to get through the intricate labyrinth of rooms.

8-Bit Slicks was mentioned recently with news saying that it's about to get a big update, well that's now happened! The new release flags the collaboration between Songbird Productions and 8bit-dude. There are performance improvements, bug fixes and new tracks! Twelve tracks in total in fact!

The more exciting news is that 8bit-slicks is coming to physical cart! It will have more gameplay enhancements compared to the free version and will feature even more maps to play!

You can download the free version here - Lynx Cart - 8bit-Slicks.

8bit-Slicks is about to receive an update you don't want to miss, here is what Anthony, its creator had to say...

Over the past 3 months, I have been working on a huge update of 8bit-Slicks. Here is a quick run-down of the new stuff:

  • 2 new tracks: Suzuka and Trials.
  • New 64K Apple version with Single Hires Graphics.
  • IJK joystick and much improved Graphics on Oric.
  • Fujinet support for the Atari.
  • FPS improvement on all platforms.
  • Tons and tons of bug fixes, eye candies!I will be releasing the new version in coming weeks, stay tuned!!!

We've also got word that there will be an official cartridge release of 8bit-Slicks with 12 maps and many overall improvements!

  • We’re happy to announce that all of the Atari Lynx game development content that has been hosted here at Atari Gamer is now moving to a community led wiki site - https://atarilynxdev.net. This means everything from the Atari Lynx Programming Resources pages will start to be moved over to the wiki.

All of the tooling that is being hosted here will be moved over in time too. This includes Palette Generator, LNX to LYX ROM Converter, LNX ROM Header Generator for CC65 and LYX ROM Converter.

We're glad to see a number of people signing up to the wiki already. Remember to read the contributing page if you want to become an editor.

Let’s make this the best programming resource for Lynx retro gaming development 😻

We've finally catalogued the entire Songbird Productions game variants collection for Atari Lynx. As it stands now, we've recorded 28 games and 49 variants from Songbird. Thanks to Carl Forhan for providing detailed information on his game releases! This has been one of the very last missing pieces from the Atari Lynx game database, however the work is not yet complete as there are new games being made for Atari Lynx all the time.

You can purchase the latest Atari Lynx offerings from Songbird Products here - https://songbird-productions.com/product-category/lynx/

You've heard about Unnamed a number of times already. It's been nearing completion for a while and finally there's an announcement from Songbird Productions about its release...

It's the last day of 2020 and we have one final piece of Lynx news for the year! You've seen all of the game entries from our LynXmas 2020 game jam, well the creator of one of those games is hosting a special promotional competition! RED is an action-survival game where you play RED, one of Santa's little dark elves, who must go deeper and deeper to find Santa while avoiding all the deadly mechanisms he left behind. The new RED (Green Edition) has been released and with it you can win one of a kind, unique, Atari Lynx cartridge release of the alpha version of RED.

You can find out more from this post (or just read below) - Play RED and win a unique LYNX cartridge!. You can play RED (Green Edition) online via our Lynx Emulator here.

Here's a copy of the update from the developer...

To celebrate the end of the year (and there are reasons to be happy this year in particular), we have decided not only to release a special edition of RED, but also to organize a small competition to give you a chance to win a unique edition of the alpha version of RED on a physical cartridge!

This alpha version will never be released elsewhere, not even digitally..

So how does this competition work?πŸ•Έ

Well it's fairly simple: Download RED - Green Edition from this post or the main itch.io page and play it on your Lynx or in your favourite emulator. Finish the game: The goal is to finish with as least deaths as possible. This version has 24 levels only but you will die a lot eventually. Note that compared to the jam, this GREEN version features slightly modified graphics, bug fixes, and faster loading/transition between levels.

    WinnerπŸ•Έ

Once you are satisfied with a run, report your final score along with the validation code to this thread on AtariAge. Note that you can update your entry if needed. The winner will be the player with the least amount of deaths. In case of identical scores, the first poster will be the winner.

    End of the competitionπŸ•Έ

The competition ends on Sunday, the 17th of January, Pacific Time. I will reach out to the winner and send him the latest version of RED, on a physical cartridge with a certificate of authenticity.

Enjoy and a Happy New Year!

    Alex Hiza from KrakenDev
